The CARTOFISH Lab
Our lab is interested in all things maps!
We explore cartographic design, visualization, and graphics largely focused on critical environmental impacts.
We are always looking for new CartoFish Lab Members.
Contact Carolyn Fish if you are interested in joining the lab and University of Oregon Geography!
About us:
Our lab has explored how map stories impact how people feel and think about climate change impacts, how different design choices in terrain maps impact map readers' perceptions of a place, and how the media designs maps of climate change.

Graduate & Undergraduate Advising Philosophy
I am a very "hands-on" advisor in that I am very involved in my students research and writing. I strive to help students think about their career goals throughout their education so that we can assure their research will have the best positive impact on their future plans.
Philosophy to Practice:
-
I always reserve 30-60 minutes on my calendar per week to meet individually with each of my graduate students
-
I expect students to start writing early in their graduate studies & I expect to go through many rounds of edits on major documents (proposal, thesis and/or dissertation)
-
Students fill out Semi-Annual Reports which are designed to help students be honest with me about their career goals, their research and plans, and what's working/not working for our advising relationship
